Pain Management

At the New Mexico Center for Pain & Wellness, we understand that pain is a complex and unique experience for every individual.  By embracing a patient-centered philosophy and an evidence-based, multi-modal approach, we actively collaborate with our patients to develop and implement a personalized and integrative treatment plan that suits their specific needs, goals, and preferences.  We strive to create a warm and compassionate environment where patients feel safe and supported throughout their journey toward pain relief.  We encourage our patients to actively participate in their own healing process, fostering a sense of empowerment and control over their pain, and paving the way to regain joy and vitality.

Our experienced pain specialists conduct thorough evaluations to determine the underlying causes and nature of pain.  By addressing the root causes of pain and promoting overall well-being, we seek to improve quality of life by increasing function, restoring mobility, enhancing resilience, and reducing reliance on medications alone.  We take time to actively listen to and understand our patients, and employ advanced diagnostic tools and techniques that may lead to one or more of the following:

Medication Management

Our team of pain specialists is highly knowledgeable in the latest pharmacological treatments for pain management. We carefully assess each patient's unique needs and develop customized medication plans to optimize pain relief while minimizing side effects, decreasing polypharmacy, and reducing dependency, redundancy, and cost.

Psychology

The integration of psychology in pain management represents a crucial aspect of comprehensive care for individuals experiencing chronic pain. Recognizing the complex interplay between physical and psychological factors, psychology offers valuable insights and interventions to address the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral dimensions of pain. By working collaboratively with patients, our providers can assess and manage conditions such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance abuse, which often coexist with chronic pain. Through various modalities such as psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and medication management, psychology aims to improve coping mechanisms, enhance emotional well-being, and promote overall quality of life for individuals navigating the challenges of chronic pain.

Sleep Medicine

Recognizing the integral role of sleep in pain management, the field of sleep medicine has emerged as a valuable asset in addressing chronic pain. Sleep disturbances often accompany chronic pain conditions and can significantly worsen pain perception and overall well-being. Sleep medicine specialists employ a multidimensional approach to assess and manage sleep-related issues, utilizing techniques such as sleep studies, cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), and medication management. By improving sleep quality and quantity, sleep medicine interventions aim to reduce pain intensity, enhance recovery, and optimize overall functioning. Integrating sleep medicine into pain management strategies holds great promise in promoting comprehensive care and improving the quality of life for individuals struggling with chronic pain.

Principal Care Management

Principal care management (PCM) is a comprehensive and proactive approach to healthcare that focuses on managing and coordinating the overall well-being of individuals, especially those with complex medical conditions or chronic illnesses. PCM encompasses a range of services aimed at optimizing health outcomes, promoting preventive care, and ensuring continuity of care. By serving as the central point of contact for patients, PCM providers develop a deep understanding of their medical history, preferences, and unique needs. They collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop personalized care plans, facilitate access to appropriate specialists, and engage in proactive monitoring and health promotion. PCM enhances patient satisfaction, improves health outcomes, and reduces healthcare costs by fostering a strong patient-provider relationship and providing comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Orthotics

Orthotics play a vital role in pain management by providing customized support and alignment to alleviate discomfort and enhance functional stability. Designed to address biomechanical imbalances and alleviate stress on specific areas of the body, orthotics can effectively reduce pain and promote healing. Whether it's orthotic shoe inserts, braces, or specialized devices, these interventions help correct gait abnormalities, redistribute pressure, and support proper alignment. By optimizing biomechanics, orthotics aid in the management of conditions such as plantar fasciitis, knee pain, lower back pain, and various musculoskeletal issues. Their ability to provide targeted support and relieve strain makes orthotics a valuable tool in comprehensive pain management, improving mobility and overall well-being for individuals seeking relief.
